Navi Mumbai: In a major push for cricket development in the Konkan region, MLA and Maharashtra Cricket Association President Rohit Pawar inaugurated the Raigad District Premier League and announced a grant of Rs 75 lakh for the Raigad District Cricket Association. The event took place at the cricket ground near Shivajinagar village in Panvel Taluka.
During his address, Pawar emphasized his commitment to the growth of cricket in Raigad, stating, “I’m willing to set politics aside to ensure cricket flourishes in this region. We’ll strive to provide a permanent cricket ground for Raigad District. Given the excellent performance of the team and association, this financial support is well-deserved.”
He also highlighted plans to provide advanced training facilities in Dapoli for promising players from the Konkan and Raigad regions. “Those who qualify on merit will get the opportunity to play in the Maharashtra Premier League,” he added.
In a further boost to local sports infrastructure, former Member of Parliament Ramsheth Thakur announced a donation of Rs 1 crore for the beautification of the ground.
The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including former MLA Aniket Tatkare, Congress District President Mahendra Gharat, Krishna Thakur, Y.T. Deshmukh, Atiruddha Patil, Association Secretary Pradeep Naik, and Kirit Patil, among others. This development marks a significant step forward in nurturing grassroots cricket talent in the Raigad region.
