Mumbai: The Samta Nagar police have booked a 40-year-old doctor from Pune for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to harass his brother-in-law after his wife lodged a police complaint against him for alleged domestic violence.
As per the police, the doctor, Datta Shetye, paid a poor girl and coerced her to file a false POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) complaint against his brother-in-law, alleging three instances of rape and gang-rape in Kandivali and Pune. He told her to claim that the incidents occurred when she was a minor (17 years old). The doctor believed that the police would arrest his brother-in-law. However, his plan fell apart due to inconsistencies in the girl’s statements during the probe.
The girl filed a complaint with the Samta Nagar police. She was also accompanied by a woman social worker and a man. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, multiple teams were formed to investigate the crime.
The police were preparing to arrest the accused when Assistant Commissioner of Police Kailas Barve grew suspicious and cross-examined the girl and her accomplices.

Further investigation revealed that the doctor wanted to take revenge from his wife who had filed a domestic violence case; her brother was helping her pursue it. With the help of his driver, he lured the poor girl from Beed district. A police officer said they will apply to the court to quash the false complaint and take legal action against the doctor and all those involved in fabricating this conspiracy.
