Mumbai: The use of drones, paragliders, remotely operated microlight aircraft and other flying objects is banned on Thursday around the Bandra-Kurla Complex and the Andheri-Jogeshwari areas of the city, the Mumbai Police said on Wednesday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

A notification to this effect was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Vishal Thakur, who is also the Executive Magistrate for Greater Mumbai.

The notification said the ban had been imposed for the Prime Minister’s security and to preclude any breach of the peace.

None of these flying objects will be allowed in the jurisdiction of the BKC police station, Andheri police station, Meghwadi police station and Jogeshwari police station. The order is in effect till midnight on Thursday.

Meanwhile, offices in the BKC business district have been told to stay open for half a day only or offer the work-from-home option for employees. Shops and showrooms along the Western Express Highway between Andheri and Jogeshwari also said they had been told to keep their establishments shut on Thursday.

One person who works at BKC said their company’s management had told employees to work from home on Thursday. Some other organisations have advised employees to work from other offices in the city.

A banker working for a financial institution told The Free Press Journal that a message was doing the rounds that companies have been told to allow staff to leave by noon to allow political activists to reach the venue of the Prime Minister’s rally from 1pm. The event is slated to be held in the evening.
