On the occasion of the death anniversary of social worker Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari, JM Mhatre Charitable Trust launched Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Tree Conservation campaign on school campuses.
As part of the campaign, a sapling will be given to the students as a gift on their birthdays. There are around 2500 students in all schools of JM Mhatre Charitable Trust. “By planting around 2500 trees every year, there will be greenery everywhere in the city. They will nurture the planted trees and ensure proper growth,” said a member of the Organisation.
Pritam Mhatre, former leader of the opposition at the Panvel City Municipal Corporation said, “Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari encouraged people to plant millions of trees out of his love for nature. With an aim to ensure that the students remain close to nature, the students will be given marks for nurturing the saplings throughout the year. I would also request the Department of Education of the Government of Maharashtra to include certain activities in the educational curriculum for tree plantation and conservation so that millions of trees are planted and nurtured every year.”
