To ensure the effective implementation of policies for persons with disabilities (Divyang), the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), convened a ‘Divyang Policy Coordination Meeting’. The meeting held on May 22, 2025 focused primarily on forming a dedicated welfare committee for Divyang individuals in accordance with directives from the Hon. High Court.
"The court has mandated that such a committee must include representatives from the Department of Social Justice, the Health Department, other related municipal departments, as well as representatives of the Divyang community. The goal is to ensure inclusive planning and address the specific needs and challenges of Divyang persons," said an official.
Through this newly proposed Divyang Welfare Committee, the PMC aims to Assess the issues and needs of Divyang individuals within its jurisdiction, Develop actionable solutions for their welfare, Provide access to education, employment, and social inclusion opportunities, Ensure the provision of necessary support services and infrastructure.
The committee’s creation is opined to mark a significant step toward inclusive urban governance and highlights PMC’s commitment to participatory planning by involving Divyang representatives directly in the policymaking process.
