Palghar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday detained a Maharashtra excise department sub-inspector and a private individual in Virar, Palghar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a local beer shop owner.

About The Case

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pragati Adsure from the ACB’s Thane unit, an FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Virar police station against the accused, Shweta Laxman Naik (54), a sub-inspector with the excise department, and Tanesh Ajit Patil (23), a private person.

The complainant, who owns a licensed beer shop, alleged that Naik demanded Rs. 10,000 per month to allow continued operation of his business, along with an additional Rs. 1,000 for signing a Naukarnama, an authorization document required for appointing staff to manage licensed premises.

Following negotiations, Naik reportedly agreed to accept Rs. 10,000 as a lump sum. The shop owner then contacted the ACB and filed a complaint.

A trap was set by ACB officials, and Patil was caught red-handed accepting the bribe on Naik's behalf. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody.

An investigation into the matter is currently ongoing, confirmed Adsure.
