Navi Mumbai: A 32-year-old surgeon from JJ Hospital, Dr. Omkar Bhagwat Kavitke, has gone missing after allegedly jumping into the creek from Atal Setu on Monday night, prompting an intense multi-agency search operation.

The incident was reported around 9:43 PM on July 7, after the Atal Setu Control Room received a call alerting them that a man had jumped off the 11.800-km point on the Mumbai-bound lane of the bridge. Ulwe Police and beat marshals rushed to the scene and discovered a Honda Amaze car (MH 46 CM 6837) parked on the side along with an iPhone left behind.

Police traced the identity of the missing man through the mobile phone and confirmed it to be Dr. Kavitke, a resident of Kalamboli’s Avinash Society and a surgeon at JJ Hospital. His sister, Komal Pramod Lambate, and other relatives later arrived at the Ulwe police station and formally identified him.

According to the police, Dr. Kavitke was unmarried and lived with his mother in Panvel. He had spoken to her on the phone around 9:11 PM, informing her he would be home soon for dinner.

"What happened in the next half hour that drove him to take this step remains unclear," said Senior Inspector Arjun Rajane from Ulwe police station. "He left behind no suicide note, and we have verified CCTV footage from the control room."

Since the incident, rescue teams—including the Marine Security Department’s Dhruvtara boat—ambulance services, and divers have been deployed to search the area. However, as of Tuesday evening, no sign of Dr. Kavitke had been found. The search operation was suspended after sunset and is expected to resume on Wednesday.

Police have appealed to the public for any information that may help locate the missing surgeon.
