Navi Mumbai: A day after a lady killed her six-year-old daughter and died by suicide at Ghansoli, a similar incident was reported from Taloja on Thursday night, where a 30-year-old woman allegedly smothered her 4-year-old daughter to death before taking her own life.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sonam Abhishek Keni, and her daughter as Divyanshi Keni, who had turned four on the very same day.
According to police, Sonam was reportedly suffering from severe depression, and preliminary findings suggest that the act was committed in a moment of emotional breakdown.
“The family lived in Pethali village, Phase-1, Taloja. On Thursday afternoon, after lunch, the lady went into the bedroom to rest while her husband, Abhishek, had gone out to make arrangements for their daughter’s birthday. During that time, Sonam allegedly smothered Divyanshi with a pillow and later hanged herself,” a police official from Taloja police station said.
At around 5 PM, when repeated phone calls went unanswered, Abhishek returned home. On opening the bedroom door, he found Sonam hanging and their daughter unconscious. Both were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead, said police.
According to police, Sonam had lost a newborn child during childbirth a few months ago, which had taken a toll on her mental health. “She had been undergoing treatment, but her condition had worsened recently and we suspect that she took the extreme step in the depression she was suffering from,” the police said.

Police recovered a suicide note from the scene in which Sonam reportedly asked for forgiveness and mentioned that she was taking the life of the daughter so that she doesn’t have to go through any suffering in life after Sonam dies. Based on this, the Taloja Police have registered a case of murder against the deceased Sonam and are continuing their investigation.
