Navi Mumbai: A surprising and scary incident happened in Navi Mumbai on Monday morning. A security guard working at a company in Mhape MIDC found a full-grown cobra inside his shoe.

The guard had left his shoes outside the security cabin because it was raining. When he tried to wear them again, he felt something moving inside one shoe. When he checked carefully, he saw a cobra curled up inside, as reported by The Times of India.

The guard quickly called a snake rescuer for help. The rescuer Akshay Dange came to the spot and safely removed the snake. The cobra was later released back into the wild, according to a report. This scary moment ended safely because of the quick thinking of the guard and the skilled work of the rescuer.

Merchant Navy Sailor Rescues Trapped Spectacled Cobra In Nhava Village, Releases It Safely

In a separate news story from Navi Mumbai, Vaibhav Mhatre, a resident of Nhava Village in Navi Mumbai and a seasoned Merchant Navy sailor since 2014, returned home on March 1, 2025, after completing a nine-month-long voyage that began in Georgetown, Guyana and concluded with his sign-off in Singapore.

Just a day after his return, Mhatre’s mother woke him up with an unexpected message: “A guest has come to see you.” But instead of a friend or relative, the visitor turned out to be a venomous spectacled cobra caught in the netting around their garden plants.

Fortunately, Mhatre is also an experienced snake rescuer. “I’ve been rescuing snakes since 2014, so I understand how they behave and know the proper way to handle them,” he explained. “Snakes don’t usually chase people unless they feel threatened.”

With the assistance of his mother and grandmother, he carefully freed the snake using a knife and scissors. Once the cobra was released, “the snake had suffered some injuries around his mouth. I poured water over its head, recognising that the exhausted reptile might be dehydrated. Yes, snakes do drink water. I caught hold of the reptile from its head and placed it inside a water can. I ensured that the can was ventilated,” he noted.
