The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of issuing pre-seizure notices and warrants to defaulters who have not paid their property taxes.

The  property tax department is reported to have  distributed a total of 447 pre-seizure notices and issued 27 warrants across all four municipal divisions so far.

"Efforts are being made to urge all property owners under their jurisdiction to pay their property taxes promptly and cooperate with the municipal corporation. Strict instructions have been issued stating that if taxes are not paid, seizure and attachment actions will be carried out," said the Property Tax Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner Swaroop Kharge.

Following this procedure, the seizure squad has initiated actions in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, Nodal Subdivision, Kalamboli, Kamothe, Panvel, and New Panvel for non-compliant defaulters. "Under the Maharashtra Municipalities Act, Section 128 and Schedule D, Clause 8, the municipal corporation is authorized to seize movable and immovable properties of defaulters and auction them to recover unpaid taxes," informed an official.

Following the initiation of attachment actions, property owners within PMC jurisdiction are informed to have begun paying their taxes. " The Khargar recovery squad successfully recovered ₹86 lakh from a renowned mall. Additionally, ₹4.69 crore was recovered from a prominent educational institution in Kharghar," said an officer.

Property tax is a key revenue source for all proposed municipal works. Failure to pay property tax  is stated to  incur a penalty of 2% per month. The municipal corporation has appealed to citizens to pay their property taxes promptly. To facilitate online payments, the corporation has developed the 'PMC TAX APP' mobile app, and citizens can also pay via the website www.panvelmc.org
