Navi Mumbai: To prevent a repeat of severe waterlogging witnessed in parts of CBD Belapur during the high tide and heavy rainfall on May 26, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde on Tuesday conducted a detailed inspection of the holding pond and pump house at Sector 12, Belapur.
The inspection focused on reviewing the emergency measures implemented after the incident, which had left low-lying sectors 4, 5, 6, and 11 submerged, causing hardship to residents. On the night of the flooding, Commissioner Shinde had visited the affected site and directed immediate steps to mitigate the situation.
During the visit, Dr. Shinde reviewed the installation of an additional water extraction pump and a backup generator system that had been promptly arranged. He also assessed the progress of ongoing work on a new pump house, which has since been expedited.
He was accompanied by City Engineer Shirish Ardavad, Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde, Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner Somnath Potre, Executive Engineers Madan Waghchaude and Vasant Padghan, and Belapur Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve.

"As water enters the holding pond from four different locations in Belapur, the Commissioner instructed that the surrounding areas be leveled to enhance the pond’s capacity. He also stressed the importance of routine desilting near pipe outlets and regular maintenance around the flap gate wall to ensure smooth water flow," an official from NMMC said.
