In response to the persistent neglect of civic issues in several sectors of Koparkhairane, Token Fast has been organized on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10 AM to 7 PM at Sector 8, K. Annasaheb Patil Udyan. The initiative aims to draw attention to the grievances of common citizens that have gone unaddressed despite repeated appeals to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Local residents, especially women and senior citizens, have raised concerns about the lack of children’s playgrounds in sectors 1 to 5, increasing incidents of illegal activities, and general safety concerns. In addition, the pedestrian bridge at Sector 7 remains closed, creating major inconveniences. Non-functional streetlights and broken drainage systems have also created sanitation and health hazards in several areas.

The fast also highlights grievances about incomplete and substandard development work under the 7/5 scheme. Faulty water pipelines, blocked sewer lines, and unplanned construction have severely affected daily life. Women engaged in small-scale home-based businesses are struggling to obtain basic permissions, forcing many to shut down their work.

There are also complaints about irregular and contaminated water supply in areas such as sectors 6 to 9 and 10. Residents claim that water tankers often skip deliveries or supply unclean water, while stagnant water in public spaces has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The situation is further aggravated by unauthorized hawking zones in and around Sector 11 and village markets.

Organized by former Corporator Ravindra Bagwanji Mhatre and. Sampada Ravindra Mhatre, President of the Vanchit Prakrampatrika Mahila Mandal, the token fast is a peaceful protest against administrative apathy. The leaders have appealed to all citizens to show solidarity by joining the fast and amplifying the demand for timely justice.
