Navi Mumbai: In a bid to reinforce waste segregation at source and promote better sanitation practices, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a focused inspection and awareness drive across housing societies and residential areas under its ongoing ‘Safai Apnao – Bimari Bhagao’ campaign.
The initiative, which began on July 1, aims to ensure that citizens segregate their waste into wet and dry categories at the household level. On Monday, teams from all eight municipal divisions conducted inspections at various housing societies and residential colonies to check whether waste segregation was being followed consistently.
Civic officials visited societies to verify if residents were handing over wet and dry waste separately to the municipal collection vehicles. Citizens were also sensitized about the environmental importance of segregation and encouraged to adopt it as a daily habit.
The drive included inspections of organic waste processing units in large waste-generating societies and assessments of ongoing Zero Waste Slum Model projects in slum areas, which are being implemented to promote decentralized waste management.

The waste segregation and inspection initiative was part of the daily activities planned under the ‘Safai Apnao – Bimari Bhagao’ campaign. NMMC has confirmed that similar drives will continue across the city in the coming weeks, with a strong emphasis on citizen participation and sustained awareness.
The civic body has reiterated its commitment to making Navi Mumbai a model city for cleanliness and sustainable waste management.
