Navi Mumbai: The planned 24-hour water supply shutdown across Navi Mumbai, originally scheduled for May 14 and 15, has been extended due to the extensive nature of repair work on the Morbe main water pipeline. Water supply, which was expected to resume by Thursday noon, will now likely be restored only by Friday morning, according to officials from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

The critical repair operation is part of the second phase of the pipeline replacement project near Agroli bridge and Chikhale village, areas that have been prone to repeated leakages. "The complex repair job is taking longer than anticipated due to the scale of the damage," NMMC official said.

The shutdown, which began at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 14, has affected several key nodes of the city, including Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, and Airoli. Areas under CIDCO’s jurisdiction—such as Kharghar and Kamothe—as well as all direct connections to the main pipeline are also facing a complete halt in water supply.

“Due to the massive scope of the work, completion has been delayed. The work will be over by late evening and we are now aiming to resume supply by Friday morning,” an NMMC official said. The civic body has also cautioned that when supply is restored, water pressure may be low and may take additional time to stabilize fully in certain areas.

Citizens have been advised to continue using stored water judiciously and cooperate with the civic authorities during this extended maintenance period. Tanker services are being arranged in some of the most affected areas to mitigate inconvenience.

NMMC has reiterated that while the shutdown is inconvenient, the long-term benefits of a more robust and leak-free pipeline will improve reliability and reduce unplanned outages in the future.
