The Congress party in Nerul marked this year’s Dahi Handi celebrations with a political twist, breaking a symbolic “Vote Theft” handi to protest what it claims was the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manipulation of votes to seize power in Maharashtra.
The protest, held under the guidance of Congress spokesperson Ravindra Sawant and led by district secretary Vidya Tai Bhandekar, drew several party leaders, including Mahanand Ramraje.
Organisers said the act was aimed at sending a strong message ahead of the upcoming Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, pledging to “show the BJP its place” at the ballot box.

Across Maharashtra, Dahi Handi festivities saw several groups using the platform to highlight political and social issues, from the Marathi identity debate and alleged misconduct of Mahayuti ministers to inflation and governance concerns.
