Bal Bharati Public School, Kharghar, celebrated International Dance Day with an interactive  session with ballroom dancer Atharva Dolas. The event, held in the school auditorium, was meant to introduce students to the world of Western dance, with a focus on Latin American ballroom styles.

The school's dance club "Nupur" marked the occasion with a vibrant semi-classical and hip-hop performance that set the stage for an engaging and educational morning.

Atharva Dolas staged an electrifying Latin dance performance to kick off his session. He shared personal anecdotes from his dance journey, highlighting both the struggles and successes that shaped his career. He emphasized that dance is more than movement — it is a cultural expression, deeply rooted in tradition and emotion.

During his lecture, Dolas delved into various Western dance styles, highlighting the essence of Latin American forms such as the expressive fluidity of Rumba, the playful syncopations of Cha Cha, the rhythmic vibrance of Samba, the spirited energy of Jive, and the powerful dramatics of Paso Doble. His explanations brought each style to life, giving students a sense of the rhythm, posture, musicality, and storytelling embedded in each form.

Through interactive demonstrations, Dolas engaged students in understanding tempo and beat, encouraging them to clap along, observe footwork, and even try out basic movements themselves. "The hands-on experience sparked excitement and appreciation among the students, many of whom were inspired to explore dance more seriously," said a teacher.

The event not only marked International Dance Day but also broadened students’ awareness of global dance traditions. Teachers and students alike were moved by Dolas’ passion, charisma, and his ability to connect through the universal language of dance.
