Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued a public notice mandating all pet dog owners within its jurisdiction to obtain a valid dog license. The directive is in accordance with the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949—specifically Chapter 11, Section 149(1), and Section 127(2)(k)—under which the "NMMC Dog Tax Regulation 1993" has been implemented. The regulation was approved by the state government via Resolution No. NMC 1692/410/CR48/92 Navi-20, dated May 28, 1993.
According to the notice, the NMMC has initiated the process of issuing dog licenses through its respective ward offices. "Pet owners are required to apply for the license online by visiting the official NMMC website, www.nmmc.gov.in, and navigating to the ‘Citizen Services’ section under the Health Department," said a spokesperson from NMMC.
The civic body has emphasized that it is compulsory for all dog owners in the NMMC area to comply with this regulation. Owners found keeping dogs without the required license will face strict penal action, said the officer.
"The initiative aims to ensure responsible pet ownership and maintain public health and safety standards across Navi Mumbai," the officer added.
