Navi Mumbai: A case of theft was reported from a NMMT bus where a 58-year-old woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth Rs 5.4 lakh while traveling from Nerul to Ghansoli by a group of women. The incident occurred on Friday morning and has prompted the Koparkhairane Police to launch a search for the unidentified female culprits.
About The Case
The victim, Vatsala Tandel, a resident of Ulwe, was on her way to attend a haldi ceremony in Ghansoli. With local trains on the Trans-Harbour route suspended, she boarded the NMMT bus no. 20 from Nerul station around 11 a.m. She had placed her gold mangalsutra and necklace inside her handbag.
During the journey, a group of women accompanied by children boarded the crowded bus. Exploiting the commotion, the suspects surrounded Tandel, and one of the children was made to sit beside her. Taking advantage of the distraction and close proximity, the woman discreetly stole the jewellery from her bag.

The culprits got off the bus near Ghansoli railway station and fled the scene. The bus conductor, sensing suspicious behavior, warned passengers to check their belongings. It was then that Tandel discovered the theft and immediately approached the Koparkhairane Police Station to file a complaint.
"We have registered a case and initiated an investigation. We are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning passengers to trace the women involved," said a police official from the Koparkhairane police station.
