Navi Mumbai: A group of 15 transgenders clashed with police officers at the APMC Truck Terminal late Sunday night, leading to chaos at the APMC police station in the early hours of Monday. The police have registered a case against the group for unlawful assembly, public indecency, obstructing government work, and assaulting public servants.

According to the police, complaints had been increasing about transgender engaging in obscene activities near the truck terminal. On Sunday midnight, Assistant Police Inspector Prabhakar Shiurkar and his team were patrolling the area when they saw a few transgenders partially undressed, stopping vehicles, and making obscene gestures. When the police asked them to leave, the transgenders allegedly became aggressive, hurled abuses, and threatened them.

Around 10 to 15 transgenders gathered and one of them reportedly grabbed a police officer’s collar and pushed him. The group also accused the police of preventing them from earning a livelihood for the past month. The situation escalated, prompting police reinforcements. When reasoning failed, the police used mild force to disperse them.

Later, at around 2:15 AM, the same group stormed the APMC police station, creating further disruption. Some reportedly removed their clothes and lay on the floor while shouting abuses. One transgender even climbed onto a table inside the station and raised slogans.

Despite multiple warnings, the group continued clapping loudly and insulting officers. Additional police personnel were deployed, and after nearly an hour of chaos, the group finally dispersed.

“We have filed case against 15 transgenders and are investigating further,” a police officer from APMC Police station said.
