Navi Mumbai: A concerned citizen has appealed to the central government to address a major gap in employee welfare by mandating uniform health and life insurance coverage for all salaried individuals in India, irrespective of their rank, designation, or sector.
Jigar Dineshchandra Doshi, a corporate professional and resident of Navi Mumbai, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, highlighting the stark disparities in insurance benefits provided by private companies.
Doshi in the letter has pointed out that while top executives often receive comprehensive coverage, most employees — even in established organizations — are left with inadequate protection.
"Many are provided with medical insurance averaging only ₹3 lakh, which is insufficient in the case of serious medical conditions. Life insurance coverage is often minimal or absent, and dependent parents are frequently excluded from medical policies," said Doshi.
He urged the government to introduce policy reforms that ensure every employee across India receives adequate and standardized coverage. In his appeal, Doshi recommended that salaried employees be provided with a minimum of ₹25 lakh in medical insurance that includes dependent parents, and life insurance of at least ₹1 crore.
He also suggested the creation of a centralized digital insurance compliance portal, which could be integrated with existing national health systems such as Ayushman Bharat or ESIC, to ensure transparency and accountability in corporate insurance practices.
Doshi emphasized that uniform insurance coverage is essential not only for employee well-being but also for upholding the principles of equality and inclusive development. His letter calls on the government to take immediate action to close the protection gap and offer every working Indian a fair and secure future.
