Mumbai: The Nagpur violence may have a Bangladesh connection, as a Bangladeshi youth who fled Nagpur after the riots was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch. During the arrest, police recovered an Aadhaar card from him, which listed a Nagpur address. Authorities are now investigating his possible involvement in the Nagpur violence.

The arrested individual has been identified as Ajijul Rehman, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant. According to sources, Ajijul had been living illegally in Nagpur for the past 6-7 years along with his accomplices. He was reportedly present in Nagpur when the violence erupted and fled the city afterward. He initially stayed in Pune for a few days before heading to Mumbai.

Upon receiving information about his movements, Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 2 laid a trap at Dadar railway station on Wednesday night and arrested him. During the interrogation, Ajijul admitted that he had been living in Nagpur for 6-7 years. His Aadhaar card showed a Nagpur address, but investigations confirmed that he was a Bangladeshi citizen.

The crime branch presented him before the Esplande Court on Thursday, which remanded him to two days of police custody. According to police sources, Ajijul was in Nagpur during the riots and fled afterward. When he arrived in Mumbai from Pune on Wednesday, he was immediately arrested. Authorities suspect that Ajijul may have had a role in the Nagpur violence, and investigations are underway.

Sources further revealed that several illegal Bangladeshi nationals who were hiding in Nagpur fled the city after the violence. The Mumbai Crime Branch is now probing whether the arrested suspect was involved in the violence and is also tracking down other Bangladeshi nationals who are allegedly living in Nagpur under fake identities.
