Mumbai, March18: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday spoke to Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam via video call on Tuesday (March 18). DCP Kadam suffered injuries during the violence that erupted in Nagpur on Monday (March 17) allegedly over the Aurangzeb's tomb issue. Fadnavis spoke to the DCP and wished him speedy recovery.

The video of the conversation was shared on social media by CMO Maharashtra and it can be seen in the video that the Chief Minister is talking to the officer over his phone on video call.

The video was shared with the caption, "Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam, who was injured in yesterday’s incident in Nagpur, via video call and wished him a speedy recovery."

Details About The Incident

On Monday (March 17), Nagpur witnessed violent clashes after Hindu nationalist groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, demanded the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s 17th-century tomb in Aurangabad.

The unrest erupted at around 7:30 PM in the Chitnis Park area, where VHP members set fire to an effigy of Aurangzeb and his tomb while chanting slogans calling for its demolition.

The situation worsened when rumours of a holy book being burnt spread, triggering stone-pelting incidents and further clashes in the Hansapuri area. Several vehicles were set ablaze, police vans were also vandalised.

Around 15 police personnel, along with multiple civilians, sustained injuries in the attack. One officer remains in critical condition.

To restore order, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in several parts of the city. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the violence, calling it a "well-planned attack," and warned that assaults on police personnel would not be tolerated. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
