Nalasopara, one of the busiest stations on Mumbai’s Western Railway suburban network, has received a significant infrastructure boost with the commissioning of a new elevated deck under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3A.

Key Link Between Southern FOBs Completed
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) has recently completed a 95-meter-long and 11.5-meter-wide elevated deck over Platform Number One. The new structure connects the two southernmost foot overbridges (FOBs), easing congestion and improving passenger flow at the station, which handles a daily footfall of 1.83 lakh passengers and nearly 440 suburban trains daily.

Comprehensive Station Upgrade Plan Underway
According to an official, the deck is part of a broader station improvement plan at Nalasopara, with a total estimated cost of approximately Rs 75 crore. Future plans include a second elevated deck connecting all platforms, a new home platform on the western side, four additional escalators, and three lifts — all aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and accessibility.

MRVC Focuses on Safer, Commuter-Centric Infrastructure
“This new elevated deck is a key step toward reimagining the commuter experience across Mumbai’s suburban network," said Sunil G Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, MRVC. "We’re not only decongesting one of the busiest stations on the Western line but also delivering on MRVC’s commitment under MUTP 3A to provide safer, more accessible, and commuter-centric infrastructure for the city’s rail users.”

Part of Citywide Station Redevelopment Drive
The Nalasopara station redevelopment is one of 17 station upgrades being carried out under MUTP 3A — a Rs 947 crore initiative aimed at transforming high-footfall stations across Mumbai’s suburban rail system.

Western, Central and Harbour Lines See Simultaneous Revamp
On the Western line, seven stations are being upgraded — Khar Road (already completed), Santacruz, Kandivli, Mira Road, Bhayandar, Vasai, and Nalasopara. Ten stations on the Central and Harbour lines — including Kasara, Neral, Dombivli, Mulund, Bhandup, Ghatkopar, Govandi, Mankhurd, Chembur, and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar — are also part of the redevelopment plan.

All-Round Upgrades for Commuter Comfort
The comprehensive upgrades under MUTP 3A include widened entry and exit points, improved lighting, modern ticketing infrastructure, upgraded security systems, new FOBs, escalators, and lifts. All interventions are designed to create safer, more efficient, and commuter-friendly railway hubs across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
