Mumbai: In a crackdown on ticketless travel, Western Railway has collected a whopping Rs 93.47 crore in fines from April to November 2024. The amount includes Rs 30.63 crore from the Mumbai Suburban section.

According to Western Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Vineet Abhishek, the railway's ticket checking team has been conducting intensive drives to curb the menace of ticketless and irregular passengers.

In November alone, Rs 12.91 crore was recovered through the detection of 2.01 lakh ticketless or irregular passengers, including unbooked luggage cases. On the Mumbai Suburban section, Rs 4.03 crore was collected in fines from 82,000 cases.

To prevent unauthorized entry into AC local trains, frequent surprise ticket checking drives have been carried out. As a result, nearly 40,000 unauthorized passengers have been penalized, and over Rs 131 lakh has been collected in fines from April to November 2024.

Western Railway has appealed to the public to travel with proper and valid tickets to avoid penalties and ensure a hassle-free journey.
