Mumbai: After receiving pre-monsoon rainfall last week with gusty winds and thunderstorms last week, a fresh weather warning for rainfall with thunderstorms is issued for Mumbai and its metropolitan regions.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) district weather forecast issued on Monday afternoon, a Yellow Alert for ‘thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rains and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places’ is issued for Mumbai for Tuesday, May 13. While for Thane and Raigad districts, the alert is issued for Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Monday, Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded minimum and maximum temperatures of 25.8 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. While, Colaba recorded a minimum and maximum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius and 33.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The skies were mostly cloudy, and the humidity was high. As per IMD scientist Sushma Nair, due to the westerly winds are causing pre-monsoon showers and although the rains have brought relief from the scorching heat, the humidity will be high, which is the seasonal weather for Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the interiors of Maharashtra are expected to witness heavy pre-monsoon rainfall this week. The IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for the districts of Pune, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Solapur, Satara, Kolhapur and Beed, among others. Several districts of the Vidharbha region are also expected to receive heavy pre-monsoon rains with thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD has informed that the monsoon is expected to arrive early this year in Kerala (May 27). However, it is not yet clarified in Mumbai and Maharashtra will also witness early monsoon. The IMD Monsoon 2025 forecast has predicted ‘above normal’ pre-monsoon showers this year and a heavier monsoon too.
