Mumbai: Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions are expected to recieve rainfall with thunderstorms on Thursday as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert. The state has been witnessing pre-monsoon rainfall since last week.

As per IMD weather report, a Yellow Alert of 'thunderstorms accompanied lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated locations' is issued for Thursday, May 15 for the Konkan region. The region includes the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri. Except Mumbai and Palghar, the Yellow Alert continues for Friday, May 16 as well.

Meanwhile, the interiors of Maharashtra is expected to recieve heavy rains. An Orange Alert is issued for several districts including Pune, Nashik, Satara, Sangli and Ahilyanagar among others. The pre-monsoon have brought relief from the scorching heat; however, for the coastal city like Mumbai, the weather change has increased the humidity.

On Wednesday, Mumbai continued to witness cloudy weather. The Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 34.6°C and 26.3°C. For the next 48 hours, Mumbai city and suburban will continue to witness temperature will in the same, with partly cloudy skies and possibility of rainfall with thunderstorms, IMD's local weather report says.

As per IMD data, this year as of Tuesday, Colaba observatory has recorded a total of 61.3 mm rainfall and Santacruz has recorded 38.4 mm. The pre-monsoon rains has also increased humidity in Mumbai, which is expected to continue till monsoon starts.

As Mumbai has been witnessing pre-monsoon showers, the citizens have started raising concerns over the inadequate desilting of drains as certain locations in the city has witnessed waterlogging with minimal rainfall.

On Tuesday, Mumbai woke up to light pre-monsoon showers. However, with the rainfall longing for a few minutes, areas like Saki Naka, Saki Vihar Road, Kherani Road witnessed water logging. The citizens took social media, criticising BMC's monsoon preparations. "I should buy a boat first," commented a Mumbaikar, sharing video of autorickshaw finding it's way through waterlogged road in Saki Naka.

BMC's monsoon preparedness was exposed last week itself when Mumbai got its first pre-monsoon showers. On May 8, Saki Naka area was a mess with silt lying all over, road works on-going and waterlogging which resulted after light rains. "We can only imagine what the situation will be when it rains heavily in monsoon," Mandeep Singh Makkar, founder Chandivali citizens welfare association said.
