Mumbai Shocker: 26-Year-Old Cab Driver Dies By Suicide After Jumping Off Bandra-Worli Sea Link; Online Gaming Addiction Suspected

After receiving the emotional text, Hussain's father and wife attempted to reach him, but their calls went unanswered as he had left his phone inside the cab before taking his own life. The family was later informed of the tragedy when the police contacted them about his suicide from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Mumbai: Aftab Hussain, a 26-year-old cab driver from Govandi, allegedly jumped from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Friday, leaving a final WhatsApp text to his father and wife. In the message, he wrote, "Mujse koi galati hui ho toh, maaf kardo" (If I have made any mistakes, please forgive me).

After receiving the emotional text, Hussain's father and wife attempted to reach him, but their calls went unanswered as he had left his phone inside the cab before taking his own life.

The family was later informed of the tragedy when the police contacted them about his suicide from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Cousin Brother Of The Deceased Speaks With The Free Press Journal

Nazir Hussain, cousin brother of the deceased, while speaking with Free Press Journal revealed that on the same night, Hussain had called him around 9:30 pm requesting him to join a gaming session where the duo, along with friends, played the game until midnight. 

Nazir also said that “he had been performing well in the game. We started playing the game everyday and he was winning. While playing the game we also asked for his location, he told us he was at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. He was very normal while playing the game but we never imagined he would take such an extreme step," said the cousin.

The cousin also said, “Hussain had studied up to the 2nd standard and had been working as a cab driver for the past year in Mumbai. Before that, he lived in his native place, Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, with his wife and two children. For the past year, he had been living alone in Mumbai with his friends in the Govandi area. His family is now devastated by his sudden demise, struggling to understand what led him to such a drastic decision.”

“There were no debts or family issues that could explain why he took this step. He never shared anything with anyone, including his wife, who is now in a shock, crying continuously, and talking about his final message to her.”

Statement Of Dr. Avinasb Desousa

According to the Dr. Avinasb Desousa, “There are many cases discovered, in online gaming he/she indulge in the game where they creates character like them in that game so they can feel like a it is part of their life and when they are not able to win this game that make them sought of low to take decision to end their life or hurt them”

He also mentioned, There are many cases that come across to me that individuals are facing depression due to the addiction of online gaming. The treatment in this case is therapy as well as some medical approach. The reason is to find out is very important that why the person is addicted, is there depression, loneliness, family problem based on the patients gets the treatment. Due to gaming addiction, people disconnected from society, people who get so involved in gaming end their social life, academic life suffers, personal life suffers and the game becomes everything to them. 

“It could be possible that due to addiction a person can take this extreme step but all the factors need to be understood in cases like this” said the doctor.
