Mumbai continues to be under Yellow Alert till Thursday and as per the local weather forecast for the next 24 hours, city and suburbs will continue witness generally cloudy skies with possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with moderate to heavy rainfall. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be 32°C and 24°C, respectively.

Mumbai has been lashed with heavy downpour after the onset of monsoon on Monday. The city has already broken 107 years record of May rainfall. As of May 28, Colaba observatory has recorded 437.4 mm of rainfall and Santacruz recorded has recorded 343.2 mm of rainfall.

As per the BMC disaster management data, in the last 24 hours the areas which recieved highest rainfall included: Malad (58 mm), Dindoshi (36 mm), Andheri (35 mm), Ghatkopar (52 mm), Vikhroli (40 mm), Chembur (33 mm), BKC (33 mm),  Malabar Hill (47 mm), Nariman point (38 mm) and Vihar Lake (41 mm).

There was no water logging reported and road traffic was not majorly affected. However, minor delays were reported in the suburban railway services.

According to the railways, suburban operations on Wednesday largely continued as normal across both Central and Western Railways. However, minor delays and persistent bottlenecks drew criticism from daily commuters.

Central Railway spokesperson said, despite the downpour, main line suburban services were running just six minutes behind schedule, while Harbour line trains were trailing by four minutes. “Services were largely unaffected. The minor delays were well within manageable limits,” an official said.

Western Railway, meanwhile, claimed that their suburban services ran smoothly throughout the day. In a post on social media platform X, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Western Railway’s Mumbai Central Division credited proactive infrastructure management for the seamless operations.

“Western Railway Mumbai Division continued suburban local services smoothly. Regular cleaning of drains, proper drainage of water and use of pumps at necessary places prevented water from accumulating on the railway tracks,” the DRM posted on 'X'. He further highlighted the use of micro-underground technology and ongoing cleaning of underground drains and culverts, especially in flood-prone areas.

Despite the reassurances, some commuters were quick to express frustration. One user replied on X, “Trains run late every day, regardless of rain or not. Khar station has become the biggest bottleneck. Local trains literally stuck for 10-10 minutes at and around Khar station. In modern era of computers and AI, why can't WR run their trains on schedule?”
