Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall until 8:30 AM on May 27, 2025. The alert comes amid continuous heavy downpours in Mumbai, which have caused widespread waterlogging and disrupted normal life across the city.

The IMD's Red Alert signifies a situation of exceptionally heavy rainfall, with the potential to cause significant disruption. Given the alert, citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors, avoid non-essential travel, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.

Mumbai has been experiencing relentless rain since early Monday morning. Key areas such as Andheri, Dadar, Byculla, Churchgate, and Mumbai Suburban have reported severe waterlogging, resulting in traffic delays and disruptions to local train services. One of the most impacted areas includes KEM Hospital, where water entered the ground floor, affecting patient services, including the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Red Alert Issued for Mumbai and Surrounding Areas

As per the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Red Alert has been declared for Mumbai and nearby regions, including Raigad, Palghar, Thane, and others, until 8:30 AM on May 27. The announcement was shared by an X account of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

All citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid travel unless necessary. The IMD is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation. Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay indoors and avoid venturing out during heavy rainfall or storm conditions.

Western Railway Slow Line Services Disrupted Due to Fallen Tree Branches

Suburban train services on the Western Railway's slow line were briefly disrupted on Monday after tree branches fell on the tracks near Parel station around 11:30 AM.

According to a Western Railway spokesperson, the obstruction was cleared by 11:59 AM, and normal train operations resumed within the next 30 minutes. While the incident caused minor delays in a few local services, swift action helped restore services promptly.
