Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to grey skies and scattered showers on Friday, August 1, marking a welcome respite from the intense monsoon spell that had caused widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across the city over the past few weeks. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall activity in Mumbai and its neighbouring regions will ease majorly in the first week of August, with no heavy rain warnings in place till August 4.

Weather Forecast For The Week

The city is expected to experience light to moderate showers under a generally cloudy sky over the next few days. Temperatures will remain relatively stable, hovering between 26°C and 32°C. The IMD has predicted light rain on August 2, 3 and 4, while rain may intensify slightly from August 6 onward. Despite the pause in heavy showers, the humidity is likely to remain high, leading to sticky and uncomfortable conditions.

Neighbouring Regions To See Light Rains Too

Neighbouring regions including Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Pune will also see a reduction in rainfall intensity. Moderate showers are likely in pockets, but there are no warnings for torrential downpours. Western Maharashtra, including districts like Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur, is also witnessing diminished rain activity, with the Met Department forecasting only occasional light showers.

Vidarbha Likely To See Heavy Rains

In contrast, parts of eastern Maharashtra are still under weather watch. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Bhandara, where thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected through the next three to four days. Areas like Akola, Amravati and Yavatmal are currently dry, but the forecast suggests heat and humidity will rise, prompting health advisories for residents.

The state’s Konkan belt, including Mumbai, continues to remain under cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall expected through the weekend. However, the IMD has warned that rainfall could intensify again by the middle of next week, urging citizens and farmers alike to remain alert and prepared for changing weather conditions.
