Mumbai: A serious accident occurred near the Shilatne junction on the old Mumbai-Pune highway involving a Scorpio car, where an iron rod pierced the driver's neck. The driver was rushed to a nearby private hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
The incident took place around 12 noon on Friday. As per available information, the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Shilatne junction. The car crashed into a roadside curb, and during the impact, an iron rod from the curb pierced the driver's neck. The vehicle sustained heavy damage, as reported by News18 Marathi.

Residents, alarmed by the crash, rushed to the scene to assist. They promptly informed the police and emergency services. The injured driver was rescued from the vehicle with great effort and taken to the hospital.
At the time of the accident, four youths were travelling in the Scorpio, heading from Pune to Lonavala for a trip. The accident caused temporary traffic congestion on the highway. Police arrived at the location shortly after the incident, cleared the traffic, and conducted a panchnama.
Further investigation is ongoing. Witnesses and rescuers were deeply disturbed by the severity of the injuries, especially the sight of the rod piercing the driver's neck.
