Mumbai: The Mumbai police have seized over 677 kilograms of contraband from January to March this year and have arrested 404 persons allegedly involved in 348 cases of drug possession in the city. The total value of the seized contraband is Rs 22.95 crore.
Statistics revealed that ganja has been the most seized contraband in the city. The police have managed to seize 664 kilograms of ganja and 7.58 kilograms of Mephedrone (MD) in the first quarter of this year, the statistics revealed.
According to the statistics, from January to March this year, the police had registered 18 cases related to seizure of heroin, arrested 24 persons in Heroin related cases and had seized 0.64 kilogram of heroin valued at Rs 1.87 crore.
The police had registered 07 cases related to seizure of charas, arrested 10 persons in Charas related cases and have seized 4.66 kilograms of charas valued at Rs 2.86 crore. The police have registered 230 cases related to seizure of ganja, arrested 238 persons in ganja related cases and seized 664 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs 1.81 crore.
As far as the high-end drugs are concerned, the police have registered 03 cases related to cocaine seizure, arrested 03 persons in cocaine related cases and seized 0.60 kilograms of cocaine valued at Rs 1.99 crore.
The police have registered 61 cases related to seizure of Mephedrone or MD, arrested 82 persons in MD related cases and seized 7.58 kilograms of MD valued at Rs 14.10 crore.
The police have also registered 24 cases related to prohibited cough syrups, arrested 35 persons in these cases and have seized cough syrup valued at Rs 29.19 lakh.
