Mumbai News: Woman Jogger Seriously Injured In Hit-&-Run Incident In Malad, Police Probe Launched

Mumbai: A 51-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle during her morning jog in Malad West on Saturday. The incident took place around 5:45 am on the road behind Infinity Mall, where the victim, Pooja Verma, was jogging along with her husband.

According to Bangur Nagar police, Verma, a homemaker and a regular jogger for the past decade, was trailing her husband by about 30 metres when a white car, attempting a right turn, struck her. The impact caused major injuries to her left shoulder, forehead, nose and knee.

Her husband immediately rushed her to a private hospital in Malad West, where doctors confirmed multiple fractures. Her condition is now reported to be stable. Police said they have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its driver.

Police Probe Underway To Trace Accused Driver

“We are scanning footage from nearby cameras to trace the vehicle involved and identify the person behind the wheel,” said a Bangur Nagar police official, as quoted by Hindustan Times. The stretch where the accident occurred is known for early morning footfall of joggers and fitness enthusiasts, raising concerns about pedestrian safety.

Case Filed Against Unknown Individual

Following the incident, a case has been registered against an unidentified driver under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), Section 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide). Relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, have also been invoked.
