Mumbai: Western Railway (WR) has installed advanced, state-of-the-art train indicators at several Mumbai suburban stations, including Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Jogeshwari and Malad.

"Designed with modern technology and passenger needs in mind, the new indicators feature a redesigned visual appearance and an upgraded matrix grid display. These improvements offer significantly better readability and visibility, especially important during peak hours when station footfall is at its highest" said an official of WR.

A standout feature of the upgraded system is the scrolling information line that dynamically displays the names of upcoming stations where the train will halt. This real-time information is expected to make travel more seamless and intuitive for daily commuters.

“The indicators are also multilingual, ensuring effective communication across the diverse demographic of our suburban commuters,” said a senior official from Western Railway. “With this initiative, WR is taking a major step forward in creating a smart and commuter-friendly environment.”

Incorporating the latest technological advancements, the indicators are integrated via an Ethernet-based network, allowing centralized monitoring, remote customization, and quick troubleshooting. This networked approach ensures operational efficiency and reduces downtime, contributing to a more reliable commuter experience.

The installation of these modern indicators is part of the ongoing Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), a nationwide initiative aimed at upgrading railway station infrastructure and services.

“Western Railway remains committed to enhancing the daily travel experience through the use of technology and innovation. This upgrade in the passenger information system reflects our dedication to that goal,” the official added.

"With more suburban stations expected to receive similar upgrades in the near future, WR’s efforts underscore a broader push toward building a smarter, more commuter-centric rail network in Mumbai" further added an official of WR.
