Mumbai: In a significant step toward enhancing student safety, the Mumbai Traffic Police conducted a meeting with principals from schools across the city to discuss the annual safety inspection of school transport vehicles on Tuesday.
The meeting was held at the Traffic Headquarters in Worli under the guidance of Hon. Dr. Priyanka Narnaware, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai. The primary agenda was to ensure stringent safety standards for all vehicles transporting schoolchildren.
Key measures discussed included the mandatory presence of a trained female attendant in each school vehicle, police verification of both drivers and attendants, the implementation of fixed bus routes, and designated pickup and drop-off points for students. These steps aim to create a secure and structured transport environment for children.
A detailed discussion was held, emphasising the importance of immediate and effective implementation of these safety norms. Dr. Narnaware issued strict instructions to all concerned authorities and school representatives, underlining that student safety must be prioritised without delay.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic - Eastern Division), Mr. Pradeep Chavan, along with senior police inspectors from various traffic divisions across Mumbai. Their presence ensured that enforcement and monitoring mechanisms were addressed thoroughly.
Four Mumbai Police Constables Suspended for Leaving Foreign Consulate Unguarded
In another news story related to the Mumbai police, four constables from the Mumbai Police have been suspended for allegedly leaving a foreign consulate in South Mumbai unguarded for nearly 30 minutes, as well as leaving the keys to the consulate's armed guard room unattended.
The constables Prasad Bankar, Vitthal Shelke, Shubham Harchkar, and Balaji Vasave, are all attached to the Naigaon Local Arms (LA) Division. According to police sources, the incident amounts to “gross indiscipline and negligence.”
