Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Tuesday has arrested a clever thief who used to disguise himself as a woman to commit theft. The accused would do a recce of the area during the day and would escape after committing thefts in the dark of the night. The accused, who has been caught by the police, has so far committed several thefts in Mumbai suburbs.
In this unusual method of stealing, the accused used to target residential areas near railway stations. After committing the crime, he would go to the railway track and change his clothes and then camouflage with the crowd wearing a burqa or salwar-suit, so that he could escape the eyes of the police and CCTV cameras.
A video of the thief, identified as Ranjit alias Munna, is making rounds on the internet.
The police have recovered 36 tolas of gold and diamond-studded Jewellery , 1 kg silver, bank FDs worth Rs 13 lakh, tools used in the theft and a gold melting machine from him. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around Rs 41 lakh.

Besides, the accused had given Rs 10 lakh to buy land in Bihar and Rs 6 lakh in cash to buy a house in Malavani from the stolen money, which has been seized by the police. Mumbai police was searching the accused since March.
How Police Caught The Accused?
The police searched the footage of more than 100 CCTV cameras installed near the railway track, in which the accused was seen in the disguise of a woman. Finally, police arrested the accused in Malavani area.
