On a day of national and religious importance, the city held various celebrations. Hindus celebrated Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Krishna. Temples across the city celebrated the day, enacting the scenes from his birth with swinging cradles. The Shri Siddhivinayak Ganapati temple, Prabhadevi, hosted a castellar troupe from Spain. The team created human tower formations in the temple premises. The team also visited the temple.

The Parsi community celebrated Navroz, their New Year, with visits to the fire temples and special food. The day is celebrated on the first day of Farvardin, the first month of the Zoroastrian calendar. The word 'Navroz' is derived from the Persian words 'nav' and 'roz', meaning new and day, respectively. While the festival is also observed during the spring equinox around 21 March, the Parsi community in India follows the Shahenshahi calendar and celebrates their new year in July or August.
