On a day of national and religious importance, the city held various celebrations. Hindus celebrated Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Krishna. Temples across the city celebrated the day, enacting the scenes from his birth with swinging cradles. The Shri Siddhivinayak Ganapati temple, Prabhadevi, hosted a castellar troupe from Spain. While the festival is also observed during the spring equinox around 21 March, the Parsi community in India follows the Shahenshahi calendar and celebrates their new year in July or August.
