Mumbai: The sessions court has on Thursday granted bail to Jay Joshi of Virgo Specialties Pvt Ltd, arrested in connection with the alleged Mithi river desilting scam.
Joshi had approached the sessions court after his bail was rejected by the magistrate court on May 22. The sessions court though has released Joshi on bail, but the detailed order would be available subsequently.
The magistrate court had, however had refused grant him bail observing that the investigation is at a very primary stage. “Considering the period of the offence and its gravity, sometime needs to be given to the investigating officer to specify the role of each accused,” the court said.
Joshi however had contended that neither him nor his firm received extra margin. His lawyer Yusuf Iqbal and Zain Shroff, had contended that Joshi had only supplied a machine, which he had imported from Netherlands for Rs 8 crores in March - April 2021.
The defence contended that the machine was supplied to the private contractor. The transaction is well recorded with income tax as well, the defence said denying any malice.

The plea however was objected by the public prosecutor expressing apprehension that if granted bail, Joshi may create obstacles in the process of Investigation which is at a primary stage. The court however, while granting bail, has imposed the condition to not influence any witness or hamper the probe in any manner.
