Mumbai: The Central government has appointed Senior Advocate Anil Singh as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India for the Bombay High Court. This marks his fourth appointment to the post. As an ASG, he will represent the Central government in litigation before the Bombay High Court.

Singh’s appointment follows the resignation of Senior Advocate Devang Vyas, who stepped down as ASG in January. Vyas, previously ASG for the Gujarat High Court, was also handling the additional charge of ASG for the Bombay High Court. He resigned to return to private practice.

A distinguished legal professional with over 40 years of experience at the Bombay High Court, Singh had earlier served as ASG from 2014 to July 2023. After his tenure ended, he opted not to seek an extension and resumed his private practice.

During his previous terms, Singh was reappointed as ASG in 2017 and 2020. Beyond his role as ASG, he has been a prominent figure in the legal fraternity. In 2010, he was elected to the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa with the highest votes from Mumbai, representing approximately 1.75 lakh lawyers across Maharashtra.

He was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Bar Council in 2011. The Bombay High Court designated him as a Senior Advocate in 2012, and in 2015, he served as the Acting Advocate General of Maharashtra for nearly five months.
