Mumbai: In a commendable display of honesty and efficiency, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) post CSMT local line team successfully returned belongings worth ₹20 lakh to a female passenger, Dr Ashia Akhtar, who had forgotten her bag during her train journey on August 24th.
"On August 24th, 2023, at 5:04 pm, at platform number 1 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), a routine inspection by the on-duty RPF staff discovered a black-colored bag in a coach of local train. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain a black laptop and various electronic devices. However, there was no identification or contact information inside the bag," said an official of CR.

"Under the guidance of RPF Incharge of CSMT, Sub-inspector Dagar, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kailash Borkar, they turned on the laptop after completing the necessary procedures and luckily found the passenger's WhatsApp was active on the laptop. After that, they contacted the owner of the bag," further added officials.
"Upon reaching out to Dr. Ashia Akhtar, they informed her that her belongings were safe with CSMT RPF," he said.
According to CR officials, Dr. Akhtar promptly reached CSMT and reclaimed her bag and its contents, including crucial dental treatment equipment, expressing her gratitude for the secure return.
"Her statement was recorded during the inquiry process, and under Inspector CSMT's guidance, a comprehensive report was prepared. The belongings were returned to Dr. Akhtar in the presence of her colleague," said an official.
"The RPF's swift and diligent efforts in reuniting Dr. Akhtar with her valuable belongings have been lauded by the senior officials of CR, highlighting their commitment to passenger safety and property protection," he said.
