A Dadar-based civic group has alleged that a Prabhadevi-based housing society has illegally converted its clubhouse into a commercial warehouse that is now being operated by quick-commerce giant Blinkit. The complainant has demanded the demolition of the illegal conversion and action against a civic official for inaction in the matter.
Chakachak Dadar, a civic group that works on highlighting civic issues in Dadar and nearby localities, has alleged an illegal warehouse running in Sumer Trinity Towers, an under-construction high-rise residential project located on the New Prabhadevi Road. According to the complaint written to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the reserved space in the basement parking area for a clubhouse has been illegally converted into a commercial warehouse, alleged to be operated by quick-commerce delivery service company Blinkit as a godown.

On May 9, Chakachak Dadar wrote to the assistant engineer (buildings and factories) of the G/South ward, demanding action against M/s Sumer Builders and Blink Commerce Pvt Ltd (Blinkit) for the change of use of the clubhouse. It alleged the misuse of designated parking space for commercial gain violates zoning norms, floor space index (FSI) regulations and amenity usage guidelines.
However, as the civic official failed to take action in the matter, the group escalated the complaint to the municipal commissioner. The organisation has alleged that the official failed to carry out a site inspection within 48 hours, direct the builder to produce authorisation of the structure and serve notices to the builder and occupant within seven days.
The group has demanded the municipal commissioner to enforce prosecution and demolition of the illegal warehouse according to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act and issue an action taken report (ATR) of the work undertaken. It has also demanded the BMC commissioner to initiate disciplinary action against the assistant engineer who failed to act on the complaint.
The Free Press Journal contacted Sumer Builders and Blinkit for their comments but both of them did not reply to the queries.
Chetan Kamble, the founder of Chakchak Dadar, said, “This is not merely an illegal construction but an institutionalised economic exploitation. When authorities protect violators instead of upholding the law, it becomes the responsibility of the citizens to intervene. At ChakaChak Dadar, we are dedicated to dismantling this nexus and are fully prepared to pursue every legal avenue to expose it and reclaim the space for its rightful stakeholders.”
In March 2025, Chakachak Dadar had also highlighted unauthorised commercial activities, and encroachments at the Elphinstone Mill public parking lot. The Free Press Journal had reported that the building management system room was illegally converted into a warehouse by a flower shop, while other rooms were being used for commercial storage including cardboard boxes and mineral water bottles along with the parking area being used to run private car service stations.
