Mumbai News: MMRDA Approves ₹12,000 Crore Budget For Smart Transport Systems & Metro Expansion Projects

MMRDA's Executive Committee approved 19 infrastructure projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore for metro expansion and smart transport systems, aiming to enhance economic growth, urban transport, and living standards in Maharashtra, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Mumbai: The Executive Committee meeting of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) sanctioned 19 major infrastructure initiatives valued at more than Rs 12,000 crore to expedite the Metro Expansion and Smart Transport Systems on Tuesday.

These initiatives will boost economic growth, improve urban transportation, and elevate the living standards for all residents. "This goes beyond just investing in metro corridors; it represents a strategic move towards a more intelligent, interconnected Maharashtra," stated Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Significant endorsements entail a sizable ₹4,788 crore agreement with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. for integrated systems related to Metro Line 4 & 4A, covering rolling stock, signaling, and depot facilities, along with five years of maintenance. Civil construction for Metro Line 4A received a revised sanction of ₹557.55 crore, whereas L&T will also execute ₹188.59 crore ballastless trackwork for Metro Line 4.

Metro Line 6 was allocated substantial funding, with IRCON International Ltd. obtaining a ₹668.15 crore contract for power supply and E&M systems, while NCC Ltd. was given ₹2,269.66 crore for rolling stock and signalling systems. Moreover, the integration of multiple modes is applicable to Metro Line 4 and 4A, estimated at ₹535.08 crore, which were split into four packages among different joint ventures.

Significant contracts also comprise AFC systems for Metro Lines 4 & 4A (Aurionpro Solutions Ltd., ₹249.97 Cr), OHE and power distribution for Metro Lines 9 & 7A (Leena Powertech-Umesh Brothers Consortium, ₹118.28 Cr), and ballastless tracks for Metro Line 2B (Paras Railtech Pvt. Ltd., ₹99.99 Cr). The MTHL Package-4 experienced a changed contract price of ₹551.41 crore for ITS and toll management systems.

"With over ₹12,000 crore of strategic investments, we are advancing toward a seamless, sustainable, and inclusive metro network and other Infrastructure that will define the next era of urban mobility for the state," Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman MMRDA Eknath Shinde said.

"The focus remains on enhancing last-mile connectivity, accelerating commissioning timelines, and delivering commuter-centric infrastructure that supports seamless, multimodal movement across the MMR," Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, stated according to report by ANI.
