Mumbai: The MIDC Police have arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals — one man and six women — for allegedly residing in India without valid legal documents.
On June 24, the police arrested a man in Andheri East. During the investigation, it was revealed that several other Bangladeshi nationals in contact with him were also living illegally in different parts of Mumbai and Pune. Subsequently, the police arrested the six Bangladeshi women from these locations.
According to the police, 47-year-old Bangladeshi national Bayjeet Shaikh was responsible for sending Bangladeshi women to various cities across India. The police received information that Shaikh had been facilitating the relocation of Bangladeshi citizens to multiple cities without proper legal documentation.
On June 24, the police laid a trap in the MIDC area of Andheri East and arrested Shaikh. During interrogation, Shaikh revealed that he would to meet Bangladeshi women in Andheri East. Acting on this information, the police laid another trap at JVLR (Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road) in Andheri East and arrested two Bangladeshi women.
Further investigation revealed that five Bangladeshi women were residing in Katraj, Pune. However, since one of the women has a pending case in court, the police arrested the remaining four from Pune.
The accused have been identified as Nasrin Begam, 38 – Resided in Kurla, Rojina Akhtar, 39 – Resided in Kurla, Kakoli Akhtar, 25 – Resided in Katraj, Roma Begam, 31, – Resided in Katraj, Pakhi Hussian, 25, – Resided in Katraj, Kohinoor Akhtar, 26, – Resided in Katraj. All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody by the court.
A police officer stated that Shaikh, who works as a laborer, was involved in sending Bangladeshi women to various cities for different kinds of work.
