To facilitate the bakeries and eateries in Mumbai to convert to PNG, Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) has waived off the security deposit and other charges to help the establishments convert to green fuel. The step comes after the BMC has started issuing notices to eateries and bakeries who use coal and wood to convert to cleaner, environment friendly fuels in compliance with Bombay High court order.

The FPJ had reported on February 28 that BMC has issued notices to 683 establishments, including 269 bakeries and 414 eateries/restaurants/hotels who use coal and wood.

The statement released by MGL said that aligning with Bombay HC directives and BMC's mandate to promote green fuel, the MGL has it's policy for bakeries and eateries to facilitate them to convert to PNG. MGL lays security deposit for its industrial and commercial customers towards cost incurred in dedicated last-mile gas infrastructure. However, MGL has decided waive off this requirement for bakeries and eateries to support them to convert to cleaner environment.

The BMC's has welcomed the initiative taken by MGL, saying it will help the bakeries and eateries to convert to green fuel by lessening their financial burden as the security deposit for commercial customers is hefty.
