The Western Railway (WR) has successfully reopened the South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Mahim Station on Friday, following the completion of critical repair work. The bridge, which was closed to the public on April 17, 2025, due to the deterioration of its deck slab, is now fully operational after a 16-day intensive restoration effort.
The repair involved the replacement of a 40-meter-long and 4-meter-wide deck slab. The original damaged slab was removed and substituted with a more durable structure featuring an I-section base and chequered steel plates. A total of 28.5 metric tonnes of steel was used in the construction.
Western Railway officials confirmed that the bridge is now safe for daily commuters, and thanked the public for their patience during the closure. The rapid execution of the work is being praised as an example of effective coordination and infrastructure management.
The reopening of the FOB is expected to ease pedestrian movement.
