Mumbai News: Mahanagar Gas Pipeline Damaged During Roadwork In Bandra, Khar; Water Leak Near Lucky Hotel Causes Shortage

The Mahanagar gas pipeline was damaged during road excavation for concretisation work at Pro Almeda Road on Tuesday afternoon, disrupting gas supply in the Khar and Bandra areas. Additionally, a water leak in Bandra West led to a water shortage, causing significant inconvenience to residents.

Mumbai: The Mahanagar gas pipeline was damaged during road excavation for concretisation work at Pro Almeda Road on Tuesday afternoon, disrupting gas supply in the Khar and Bandra areas.

Additionally, a water leak in Bandra West led to a water shortage, causing significant inconvenience to residents. While the pipeline has been restored, gas supply is expected to be fully resumed by Wednesday morning.

The gas supply was affected in areas such as ount Mary, Vaidya Nagar, Bandstand, K C Marg, John Baptist Road, Perry Road, Pali Hill, Carter Road, Hill Road, Adarsh Nagar, Bandra West. Asif Zakaria, former corporator, stated, "The underground gas pipeline was damaged around 3 pm on Tuesday during the digging of the old asphalt road for concretisation. Mumbai Fire Brigade officials, along with local BMC ward officials and Mahanagar Gas representatives, rushed to the site. They immediately disconnected the gas supply and worked to stop the leakage. Gas supply in some areas was restored by Tuesday evening," Zakaria confirmed.

In another incident, a major leakage was detected in a 750 mm diameter pipeline near Lucky Hotel in Bandra West, causing water shortages in areas such as Khar Danda, Dandpada, Gazdar bandh, Chuim Village, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Pali Village, and parts of Khar.

"Although the leak was identified on Monday, work was delayed due to traffic. The excavation was stopped as no clear leakage was found in the dug-up area," said a civic official The BMC's Hydraulic Engineering Department resume excavation after pinpointing the exact leakage spot using the sounding method. The water supply has been now restored, said the official.
