Mumbai News: KEM Hospital Workers Protest Over Unpaid Salaries, Additional BMC Commissioner Vipin Sharma Directs Dues Clearance

After Class IV workers at BMC-run KEM hospital held a Gandhigiri protest by giving roses to the dean on Tuesday against unpaid salaries, the additional municipal commissioner Vipin Sharma ordered the hospital to clear the dues.

Mumbai: After Class IV workers at BMC-run KEM hospital held a Gandhigiri protest by giving roses to the dean on Tuesday against unpaid salaries, the additional municipal commissioner Vipin Sharma ordered the hospital to clear the dues, the Municipal Mazdoor Union said.

"Around 150-200 workers joined the protest where we have roses to senior officers and dean. More than 360 daily wages and multipurpose workers haven't recieved their salaries for two months and their Diwali bonus is also pending. The workers without complaint continue to perform their duties. The protest was required for the aadministration to hear the step-motherly treatment the workers are receiving," Pradeep Narkar from Municipal Mazdoor Union said.

The union who led the protest said that AMC Vipin Sharma has ordered the hospital to clear the dues and in case the dues are not cleared this month, we will continue protest by wearing black ribbons every Tuesday. Dean of KEM hospital, Dr Sangeeta Ravat confirmed that the matter is resolved and the payments will be cleared.

The workers fall into Class IV category and get an average salary of Rs 21,000 per month. KEM, a major BMC hospital has around 111 multipurpose workers (who perform all odd jobs as per requirement) plus 42 workers for shift change and 250 daily wages workers, who are paid Rs 774.46 per day.
