Two persons, including a woman, have been booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 32-year-old chartered accountant (CA), Raj More, a resident of Santacruz East, Mumbai. According to the police, More consumed poison on Sunday after allegedly losing over ₹3 crore to extortion related to an adult video. He had also embezzled money from his company account to pay the accused, who have been identified as Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi.
The Vakola police stated that More was employed as a CA at a reputed city-based company. He left behind a three-page suicide note in which he named Parwani and Qureshi as responsible for his death. He claimed they had been blackmailing him for the past 18 months using same-sex videos.
More reportedly came into contact with Parwani through Instagram in September 2024. They later exchanged contact numbers and eventually became physically intimate at various locations. During these encounters, Parwani allegedly recorded a video of them together and, along with Qureshi, began blackmailing More by threatening to make the video public.
Knowing that More had significant investments in the share market, the duo extorted large sums of money from him. They also allegedly took possession of a Thar SUV from him without paying the EMIs. Under mounting pressure, More transferred substantial amounts of money, including funds embezzled from his company's account.
In June, as the situation worsened, More filed a police complaint against the two accused. However, the harassment reportedly escalated. Parwani and Qureshi allegedly visited More's home in Vakola, assaulted his mother in front of him, and threatened to release the video online. Unable to cope with the continuous threats and humiliation, More allegedly consumed poison. His post-mortem was conducted at Cooper Hospital.
