Mumbai: Sudhir Prajapati, Assistant Pointsman at the New Mulund Goods Shed (NGSM), Mumbai Division of Central Railway, thwarted a theft attempt and caught the accused red-handed.
"The incident occurred on July 14, 2025, when Train No. 11016 Amrit Bharat Express, which had been short-terminated at Thane, was brought to the NGSM Yard for stabling. The empty rake was placed on RD Line No. 2 at approximately 5:05 pm" said an official of CR.
"While performing routine stabling duties, Prajapati proceeded towards the Mumbai-end of the train to place wooden wedges and safety chains. As he climbed into SLR Coach No. CR-256034 to apply the hand brake, he noticed a man behaving suspiciously inside the coach. When confronted, the individual attempted to escape, pushing Prajapati and fleeing towards the Kalyan end of the rake" he said.
Unfazed, Prajapati immediately alerted his on-duty colleague, Train Clerk Sunil Patil, and together they gave chase. The duo managed to apprehend the suspect after a brief pursuit. Upon search, a stolen railway item was recovered and later secured by the Deputy Chief Yard Master at NGSM.
The thief was handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for further legal proceedings. Prajapati, who joined the Railways just 21 months ago, has been praised for his presence of mind and unwavering commitment to duty. Central Railway officials lauded Prajapati’s efforts, calling him a role model for railway staff.

"His actions not only prevented the loss of valuable railway property but also underscored the vigilance and dedication required to safeguard public assets" further added an official on CR.
