Mumbai: A 68-year-old Chartered Accountant from Nariman Point has allegedly been duped of ₹44 lakh by a man claiming to be a reputed stock market trainer, wealth manager, business advisor, and Bollywood writer. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Shailesh Vishnubhai Haribhakti, the Cuffe Parade Police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Raj Hari Raysinghani (43).
According to the FIR, the incident occurred at the complainant’s office in Nariman Point. Raysinghani reportedly convinced Haribhakti to invest ₹10 lakh for one year, promising a monthly return of ₹50,000 to be credited on the first of every month via online transfer, until the principal amount was repaid.
Lured by the alleged credentials and the attractive returns, Haribhakti went on to invest ₹20 lakh in a wealth management scheme handled by Raysinghani. However, since November 2022, the accused has allegedly failed to pay the assured monthly returns and has not returned the invested amount. As a result, Haribhakti suffered a total financial loss of ₹44 lakh.
Police said that Raysinghani induced the victim to invest by fraudulently presenting himself as a reputable financial expert. The accused is currently absconding, and further investigation is underway. A case has been registered at Cuffe Parade Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and criminal breach of trust.
